Strike action on the Rand

There were a series of strikes leading up to the Rand Revolt in 1922. The 1907 strike was the first large-scale, organised, white miners’ strike on the Rand. In 1913, a miners’ strike broke out over working conditions and a desire for unionisation and eventually martial law was declared.
