The Bindery was established by Roger Bolton, who subsequently directed its projects until 2001. After working in the department for ten years, Alan Jeffrey took over its management. The Bindery practises the restoration and preservation of paper and leather and associated crafts such as leaf-casting, paper making, hand-marbling, gilding, binding and tooling, utilising innovative techniques to the highest archival standards. The binder also gives expert advice and assistance to professional organizations.
